I like to glaze pound cakes when they’re still just barely warm. Glazing while slightly warm makes for a beautiful, even, and slightly glossy glaze. Let me know if you would be interested in pound cake recipes. I have a couple of favorites. Lemon Pound Cake, and Nanny’s Pound Cake. Another way to enjoy: bake in a 9×13 pan, split the layers, and fill with freshly whipped cream and sliced strawberries. Top with additional whipped cream and berries!
A sneak peek at my upcoming Cinnamon Roll Recipe using Buttery Vanilla Glaze. One batch makes 4 large, 6 to 8 medium, or one dozen small rolls.
Below you’ll see a few items I used when filming the video for this glaze. Good quality vanilla can make a big difference in the flavor of all of your recipes, especially in frostings and glazes. Try using Watkins Baking vanilla, or a “pure vanilla” extract for a true, robust vanilla flavor. Cookie dough definitely gets a boost from pure vanilla.
I’ve noticed since I started filming recipes, the little pinch bowls, or “seasoning bowls” really come in handy. I like measuring all ingredients ahead of time to ensure nothing is left out! A bottle of good vanilla, cherry blossom pinch bowls, and a set of cotton berry patch dish towels makes a great gift for bakers. See more of my favorite kitchen tools by clicking here.
Once you try making a glaze with melted butter, I think you’ll love it and want to use this recipe over and over. Be sure to let me know if you try it!

Buttery Vanilla Glaze
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 c. powdered sugar
- 2 1/2 Tbsp. half and half
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 Tbsp. melted butter
Instructions
- Stir all ingredients together until smooth and creamy. If you'd like a thinner consistency for dipping cupcake tops or muffin tops, add a little more half and half a few drops at a time until you're happy with it. If you add too much half and half and the glaze is too thin, just stir in a little extra powdered sugar. Enjoy!
